Ranking The Big Ten Student Sections By Twitter Presence

One of the great things about the Big Ten is the great amount of fan support that all the teams across the conference receive.  Not only does the Big Ten continue to lead the nation in attendance, but they pack some of the nation's largest arenas and travel extremely well.

In particular, the Big Ten has consistently had great support from its students.  Though show up to games, cheer loudly, and create some of the best home environments in college basketball.  One place that almost all of these student sections are represented is on Twitter and we created a list for those of you wondering who has the most followers on Twitter.

Here are the rankings and keep in mind that some are student sections for all athletics and some are geared specifically toward basketball.

Big Ten Student Section Rank:

  1. Michigan - 26,400 followers
  2. Ohio State - 21,700 followers
  3. Michigan State - 20,100 followers
  4. Indiana- 13,900 followers
  5. Purdue - 13,600 followers
  6. Illinois - 10,600 followers
  7. Penn State - 7,970 followers
  8. Iowa - 7,049 followers
  9. Wisconsin  - 4,659 followers
  10. Rutgers - 3,254 followers
  11. Nebraska - 3,158 followers
  12. Northwestern - 3,107 followers
  13. Minnesota - 1,874 followers
  14. Maryland - No presence
Overall, a great performance by the Big Ten in general with a grand total of 137,371 followers between all 13 identified accounts.  Perhaps Maryland will have to step up their presence as well, especially considering they are projected to be a Top 5 team in the preseason polls by some.
